about the pacific puddle jump
An annual rally that has brought sailors together for 28 years to make the legendary passage from the Americas to French Polynesia.
more than a crossing
More than just a passage, the Pacific Puddle Jump is a supportive community that shares resources, preparation guidance, and camaraderie — helping cruisers navigate one of the world’s great bluewater adventures with confidence and connection.
Founded by Latitude 38 editor Andy Turpin, the rally has always been about freedom, conviviality, discovery and safety. What began as an informal gathering of bluewater dreamers grew into a modern, well-supported rally — yet at its heart it remains a community of adventurers united by the call of the Pacific.
freedom, safety, community
Flexible departure
Crews start their crossings anytime between February and May, launching from ports along the West Coast of the Americas.
Flexible route
Rather than a rigid race, PPJ is built on safety, freedom and community. Boats check in daily, but skippers choose their own route and timing.
A real community
A strong sense of mutual support binds the crews, who share information and experiences before, during and after the crossing.
the polynesian symbiosis
After two years sailing with their kids from France to Tahiti, Nikki and David created Sail Tahiti in 2015. Today it’s the leading catamaran dealership in the South Pacific — distributing Excess, Beneteau and, through parent company Lagoon, the full catamaran range.
Since 2026, Sail Tahiti has succeeded Andy Turpin in organizing the Pacific Puddle Jump — bringing local knowledge and a 100% sailor-led team to the rally. Need a boat for your adventure? Talk to us.
