Kauehi Modernizes Its Access to the Lagoon

Published : 9 April 2026

In Kauehi, in the Tuamotu archipelago, the landing pier in Tearavero Bay is undergoing a major redevelopment project. The goal: to secure access, improve the reception of vessels, and make daily life easier on this atoll.

In the Tuamotu archipelago, the atoll of Kauehi is undergoing a discreet but essential transformation. Since March 2026, work has been underway to modernize the landing pier in Tearavero Bay, a key hub for maritime transport.

The project has a dual objective: improving docking conditions for coastal cargo vessels, which are essential for supplying the island, while also making movements easier for residents and recreational boaters. In these remote territories, every piece of infrastructure plays a vital role in daily life, and this project fits fully within a broader effort to reduce isolation and support local development.

In practical terms, the existing jetty will be reinforced and extended by nearly 80 meters on piles. At the end of the structure, a platform will significantly increase reception capacity, with a total quay length approaching 180 meters. A boat ramp, along with various mooring facilities, will complete the installation, while a beacon and a navigation mark will be built to improve the visibility of the approach.

Commissioning expected in 2027

With a budget of approximately 650 million CFP francs, the project is jointly funded by the Government of French Polynesia and the French State under the third financial instrument (3IF). Completion is scheduled for the first half of 2027.

Throughout the construction period, operational continuity is being maintained: supply vessels can continue to dock, ensuring that daily life on the atoll is not disrupted.

In Kauehi, improving access is not measured only in meters of quay. It is above all about strengthening the connection between the island, its lagoon, and the rest of the world.
